One year ago I began driving to Seattle as part of moving here. It's odd how things line up.

"This place is like a horror movie in utopia. In the last month of school, everyone looks like a zombie. And yet the sun is shinning high in the clear blue sky with a cool breeze and the soft sounds of water flowing in a nearby fountain. But the students looked battered, utterly battered. And yet faintly, gloriously, happy." (Reputedly; don't kill me if I'm wrong) from John Parker speaking at this year's mudd graduation.
Waiting for code to do stuff is booooooorrrriiiiiinnnnngg.....

The mariners shall be playing the angels on may 16th at 7pm. I suggest some amount of attending the game should happen. And by suggesting, I mean 'I'm going to go'. I shall organize things for anyone interested and will probably buy tickets around friday.
I also attended the supercross at qwest field today. Suzuki didn't have a great night - Tedesco crashed on the first lap and fell from ~second to last (though he did move up to 10th-ish at one point in time) and the only other guy, Brywn or something, was not impressing me very much ridingwise - poor lines and generally being slower. Mr. James Stuart (who won the race and clinched the season) rode very very well, though, so I have to give him props and stuff. In related news, my feet hurt.

Since I've had some (read: exactly one) questions to me - no party this weekend due (at least in part) to that bowling thing. I shall work on coming up with some suitibly silly excuse for another party - looking at cinco de mayo right now because tacos are easy to make. Or (as discussed with the questioner) an April Fool's day party could be amusing but I don't know if I have the budget to spring for the full complement of cream pies, soda water, squirting flowers, etc.

I really don't check this (or facebook, but I never checked that too often) as often as I should. I suppose I could go post at work like certain people, but...too busy. So, recent highlights: * More crazy weather * includedmiddle and the dinner of wii awesome, fun, and generosity - thanks! * Oncall getting over * Entirely too little sleep * Fun with people * Seahawks losing :( though really not capitalizing on stuff better...meh, bears sucked anyway. Bah. * Entirely too much stuff to do / too little time in which to do it
Anyway, I'll try (and almost certainly fail) to post before another month, this time.
Oh, and also - I had been planning on a party (7-course irish feast!) on the 17th of March. Seeing as that is also the scheduled time for a 'young alumn' thing, I was wondering how many people were thinking about attending the bowling dealio for planning purposes - I can move what I was going to do if most people wouldn't be able to attend (or could be the pre/after-party too, I suppose).

I've been doing a lot of stuff I should have posted, but I didn't. So, the next recap:
1. Snow after thanksgiving. Totally sweet in general, if slightly annoying in my apartment's heating not being as good as I'd like. I took some pictures and should post them somewhere.
2. Skiing on the 10th: went to snoqualmie with people from work. Except for getting mixed up locationwise, heavy fog, and painful feet/legs/ankles, it was totally sweet. Only did blues/greens, but the fog got better after lunch and it actually started snowing. Probably had 2 inches on the car when we quit, and we actually spun out twice on the way back (well, maybe more like 1.5, since once was just a lack of stopping rather than a proper spin out). My ankles hurt on monday.
3. Weather on thursday/friday. I didn't think it was too bad despite people saying it was going to be. And then I walked to the bus ~5pm on thursday. We're talking 6"-1' of water in the street. Not even counting the 30+ mph wind. Took me an hour to get home and I was much the sadder (and wetter) for it. Could feel my apartment moving in the wind later on that night, which was rather odd. Friday looked normal until like 1/2 the office didn't show up. I got a bunch of work done, though, which was handy. My grandmother, though, looks to not get power back for about a week which is sad. She's fine (and actually going to visit my aunt tomorrow or so), though, which is less sad.
4. Played some poker last night. I lost a bunch, but it was fun. Meh, I clearly need to get better.
5. I am going to try and have some sort of post-christmas (12th night?) party. I should have an actual plan later. Whee.

I have been busy. ( Here's why ) So I guess the question is....anyone in seattle interested in bowling?
Also, it was 30 degrees outside when I woke up (5:45 and so very dark....well, not unexpectedly so). I find this somewhere between amusing and disturbing.
Current mood: cold Current music: Some techno mix something that I don't like that much

Well, I like them beating the As. Like the hopefully will tonight. But relatedly, I have 2 (well, 3 but I want one) tickets to Friday's game, which is fan appreciation night or somesuch. Anyone interested in going with me? I have no idea where the seats are, but it's a nice stadium in general!
In the (unlikely?) event that more than 2 people are interested in going, I suppose I'll have to come up with some way of dealing with it. I'll cheerfully ignore that until/unless it's a problem.

It's interesting. I've purchased alcoholic beverages at safeway 5 times. Two of those were right after getting a haircut and I was carded. The other three were at least a month away from a haircut and I was not carded.
Mysterious.

I seem to have a chance to go camping at Northwest Trek this upcoming weekend (saturday afternoon->sunday morning or so, not sure on the times) and as the campground has considerably more than enough room for 2-4 people (grandmother and possibly two others), I am in the position of being able to invite some people. Anyone interested?
I could give rides to up to 4 and have some tent room (yay diamond fly tents!). Don't think I have spare sleeping bags and the like, though.
More details will probably come if anyone's interested.
And unrelatedly, I have a cold. Which makes me sad/annoyed.

So, apparently LJ's friends thing will only show you the last 50 posts. Odd, but I was too lazy to try and work around it (and changing the URL didn't work).
But anyway, I'm oncall this week. This seems to make me tired - I slepy a whole lot. And got paged, but not at the same time.
In exchange (sorta), I got to do this last weekend. Much fun was had all around. Though it was warm.
And next weekend, I'm going to MA/Worcester to visit my grandparents. If anyone around there wants to try and visit/have me try and visit, leave something and I'll see what I can do. Will be there Fri morning - Monday afternoonish.
Also, Amazon is apparently (still) hiring. So if you want to get referred and Jeff is too busy or something, feel free to bug me.

So on Saturday I went to Richard III with a number of the mudd people and had them over for chili & such afterwards. The play wasn't bad - well done, but not my favorite play (and not as fun as the one @mudd) and things after that were fun & entertaining too.
I also liked the chili.
Since then, I'm doing lots of work stuff, which kinda makes me sad. I suppose you could say that I deserve it, though, so I'm not complaining....much...yet....yeah.

Roughly 5:30, more exactly expressed as 'whenever we get back from Richard III' (which is scheduled 2-5). Call me or buzz the door for entrance - if I don't respond, I'm probly not back yet.

Angels win. Clearly, I was the lucky charm (despite them winning 14-6 without me in the statium yesterday...though I did listen to part of it).

Well, I never got the pictures I was waiting on, but I decided it was long enough and I should just make a post. In reverse order!
My stuff got here on Saturday. I was most impressed with the movers, who somehow managed to get the mattress up the stairs. It's crazy heavy, in addition to being large (60"x80"x15"?) and the bed completely dwarfs the nightstand things I got. Oops. But hey, they were only $20. So I got the important stuff (blankets, pillows, computer, stereo) unpacked and have lots left to do. And a lot of putting away of stuff that I unpacked to get the important stuff. Ugh.
Before that, I had my first week at Amazon. I admit I was surprised - I never really used their site except for books and DVDs, but they sell about everything now (including groceries). Anyway, I spent a lot of time learning to do things and not much doing them. Not unexpected, I suppose, but different than my last two internships. Of course, Amazon is what, like 900 times larger than Thumbworks and 36 times larger than Green Hills? So yeah, not too surprising I suppose. But yeah, it's been both interesting and somewhat fun. Hopefully that will continue.
And next Friday or Saturday, I'm going to be ambitious and try to have some kind of 'Come see the new place!' thing, even though I probably won't have a dining room table (unless I buy one...from Amazon!). I have a couch and a coffee table (and two chairs), though, so unless lots of people who all want to sit show up, I'll probly be fine. More details will follow (it's contingent on how much unpacking I do, partly).
And I'll try and get pictures some time, too. Whee.

I was going to update, but then I went and visited kitty_tape and darenjax instead. And if I wait more, I might have pictures to link to too, so I will. Especically since I'm planning to leave soon (for that (ominous) first day of work). Whee.

So, I look to be driving up to Seattle starting tomorrow and ending Thursday. I hopefully will have been approved by then and will move in. Otherwise....well, apartment hunting more won't be fun. So anyway, driving up, probably stopping in Santa Cruz to visit my brother. It'll be...fun? Long? Boring? I don't know for sure, but meh.

So, here I am in Seattle (well, on Fox Island right now actually, but close enough). Spent today from ~8am-6pm looking at apartments and did in fact apply for one. Now people get to check out my credit history and stuff to see if I get to give them the deposit and get on the moving in. Whee. The place I ended up liking the best was in eastern queen anne, though we looked (toured? inspected?) also at capital hill, belltown, and drove around in between lots. My aunt was with us, which was nice - she lives in Tacoma but still kinda knows where stuff is and did all the driving. Fun indeed.
Current mood: tired Current music: None? That's silly of me
